On the evening of the 4th of November 1605, Guy Fawkes was discovered along with 36 barrels of gunpowder in the House of Lords. He was later convicted and sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quatered for the attempt by some English Catholics attempt to restore a Catholic to the monarchy.

John Milton in 1926 at Cambridge would later compose “In Quintum Novembris” (“On the Fifth of November”) . This version commemorates and hopes we never forget that a lunatic thought he could get away with the 6th of January.
